Diabetic Eye Care

Individuals diagnosed with diabetes will often face a myriad of health challenges, including those that affect your eyesight. One of these possible challenges is Diabetic Retinopathy.

What is Diabetic Retinopathy?

Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye condition that occurs when abnormally high glucose (blood sugar) levels damage blood vessels in the retina. These vessels get weakened and can potentially leak or break down. New, abnormal, extremely fragile blood vessels will then grow on the retina as the condition progresses. This can lead to poor vision, and, if left untreated, severe vision loss.

Aside from Diabetic Retinopathy, diabetes also significantly increases your risk of having other serious eye problems.

How Can We Help?

If you have diabetes or are worried about diabetic retinopathy, we’re here to help. Through regular comprehensive eye exams, we can work together to prevent, diagnose, and treat early vision problems.

Keep Your Eyes Healthy

One of the best ways to prevent eye diseases linked to diabetes is by having a solid management plan. This includes controlling and monitoring your blood sugar levels and your blood pressure. Exercise, healthy eating habits, and monitoring your cholesterol levels are also great ways to help you protect your vision.
